The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world

Once upon a time, I learned how to be a librarian, and, of course, I had heard about this library. However, back in 2012, I never thought that I would be here in the US and have the opportunity to visit the Library of Congress.

On July 3rd, 2019, I visited Washington DC and spent an entire day exploring the Library of Congress. The experience surpassed my expectations as the library turned out to be much larger than I had imagined. The vast collection contains over 168 million items, including an impressive assortment of more than 39 million cataloged books and other print materials in 470 different languages, among many other fascinating artifacts. It was a truly remarkable and enriching visit.

Every book is more than just paper; it's a letter from one person to another. It's amazing that I can learn valuable lessons from so many people through their books, and I appreciate the effort and dedication some of them put into writing these works over many years. By reading their stories, I gain insights and knowledge.

However, libraries offer much more than just books. They are vibrant spaces that provide access to a wide range of media and resources. In addition to books, libraries may offer movies, games, meeting rooms for community gatherings, and special programs. These additional offerings make libraries valuable hubs for learning, entertainment, and community engagement.

Libraries play a vital role in enriching our lives, fostering learning, and promoting a sense of community. They provide a platform for people to explore various forms of media, expand their knowledge, and connect with others who share similar interests. As centers of information and culture, libraries continue to be essential and cherished institutions in our society.
